GMT94 YAMAHA TO JOIN WorldSSP WITH MIKE DI MEGLIO IN 2018

GMT94 - gmt94 yamaha to join worldssp with mike di meglio in 2018

The French squad is set to come back in WorldSSP with the former World Champion and Yamaha.

The GMT94 Yamaha, three-time Endurance World Champion, is pleased to announce a new challenge for 2018. The team will compete all rounds of the FIM World Supersport Championship not conflicting with World Endurance Championship events. Mike Di Meglio will race with the French squad based in Val de Marne in France. The 2008 125cc World Champion, winner of the 24h of Le Mans, the 8h of Oschersleben, the 8h of Slovakia and the Bol d'Or, will ride aboard a GMT94-prepped Yamaha YZF-R6 wearing the emblematic number 94.   The project is backed by the FFM, QUORUM, Mutuelle des Motards, Yamaha and all the GMT94 partners.

Christophe Guyot: "An endurance team performs better when the three riders are also competing in road racing. The GMT94 has always been committed to it. After winning the French Championship with Kenny Foray in 2015 (Stock 1000) and David Checa in 2016 (Superbike), we could not miss the opportunity to get back to our WorldSBK roots. The new regulations make the Championship very attractive to us. It gives every team a chance to be competitive. Dorna, promoter of the Championship, opened the door to us and will be flexible with our conflicting racing calendar this year. Mike Di Meglio is talented and motivated. He's fully invested in helping us to overcome our steep learning curve against very strong competitors."

Mike Di Meglio: "Of course, I first dream first and foremost of winning the EWC world title with David Checa and Niccolò Canepa. I would really like to be the first rider to be crowned both in Grand Prix and EWC. With David racing in the French Superbike Championship, Niccolo's duties as a WorldSBK test rider and my involvement in WorldSSP, we will be at our best. I will likely miss a few Supersport races because of the calendar, though. It's a pity, but we have much to learn and must be humble with our expectations even if we have great ambitions. I am extremely motivated and very happy to come back to road racing. Many thanks to GMT94, Yamaha, Dorna, and the FFM, which has always supported me. I hope that we will have some great races."
