The 2026 Supersport World Championship season kicks off from 20 to 22 February 2026 at the legendary Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia.
In a magnificent oceanfront setting, the GMT94 team will field the same line-up as in 2025 for this first round: Lucas Mahias and Roberto Garcia, determined to get the year off to a great start.
It should be noted that the championship has evolved in recent years to include different engine sizes and motorcycle designs in order to accommodate more brands. This makes the balance of performance (known as BOP) even more complex to manage.
In this context, GMT94’s goal, beyond aiming for the team world title, will be to be the top Yamaha on the standings.
Introduction to the Phillip Island circuit (Australia)
Located on Phillip Island, south-east of Melbourne, this 4.445 km track has 12 corners (5 right, 7 left) and a long 835 m straight. Popular with riders for its spectacular seaside setting, it is one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, requiring total commitment from start to finish.
Historically, Phillip Island imposed flag-to-flag races with a mandatory pit stop to change tyres at the halfway point due to the highly abrasive track surface.
This season, tyre manufacturer Pirelli has made significant improvements to its tyres.
The SC1 in 200 now offers much more stability and riding pleasure, even if in terms of pure performance the lap times could be slightly slower than in the past.
For the first time in several years, the riders are not worried and we could see a full race without tyre changes.
The riders’ mindset ahead of this first round of WorldSSP 2026
The atmosphere within the team is excellent after two productive days of testing, and there is a real positive collaboration between Frenchman Lucas Mahias and Spaniard Roberto Garcia.
Lucas Mahias arrives at Phillip Island with good memories, having already won there in 2018. He loves this circuit and is satisfied with the work done with the team on race simulations and tyre consumption.
For Roberto Garcia, this is his first time at Phillip Island. Methodical in his learning, he is taking the weekend step by step to quickly show his performance.

The weekend is expected to be fine and sunny with temperatures around 26°C, accompanied by a steady wind of around 30 km/h, which could affect stability on straights and cornering behaviour.
