GMT94 aims for a one-two finish at Estoril

7 October 2026

Race resume

GMT94 heads into the 11th round of the WorldSSP Championship with a clear ambition: to see both its riders on the podium at Estoril (Portugal). From 9 to 11 October 2026, Lucas Mahias and Roberto Garcia will return to a circuit they enjoy, riding a Yamaha R9 capable of competing at the front of the field.

Currently third in the championship with 279 points, GMT94 is determined to consolidate its place on the podium as the season draws to a close. While a top-five finish is already a major achievement in the WorldSSP Championship, the team is keen to realise its ambitions by having both riders in the top three.

Estoril, a technical circuit that lends itself to overtaking

Located just over 30 kilometres from Lisbon, the Estoril circuit is situated near the coastal town of the same name. Measuring 4.182 km in length, it features 13 corners, including 9 right-handers and 4 left-handers.

The circuit is spacious and technical, and is notable in particular for having one of the longest straights on the calendar, at just under one kilometre. The two very tight hairpin bends and the long sweeping bends offer plenty of overtaking opportunities and make for close races.

Having seen both of its riders finish on the podium this season, GMT94 is aiming to take things to the next level in Portugal.

Lucas Mahias is keen to get back among the frontrunners

The French rider has a major advantage: his experience of the circuit. Lucas Mahias is particularly fond of the Portuguese track and its ‘old-school’ character, where he has already claimed victory, notably in the 2020 Supersport season finale. He is aware, however, that the long straight will not work in his favour.

After a strong finish to the race at Cremona, the Frenchman is keen above all to build on the pace he showed in the last round. At Estoril, the aim will therefore be to quickly recover that speed and challenge for a podium finish.

Roberto Garcia returns to familiar territory

For Roberto Garcia, Estoril is also a special stop on the calendar. The Spanish rider already knows the circuit inside out, particularly thanks to his experience in the European Moto2 Championship. In fact, he won a race there in 2024, on a track particularly suited to his riding style.

Having got to know Cremona during the previous round, Roberto is therefore approaching this weekend with greater familiarity and confidence.

His ambition to finish on the podium is clear. With a track he enjoys and a bike he now knows well, the Spanish rider intends to stack the odds in his favour to challenge at the front of the field.
