The Superbike World Championship heads to Spain from 16 to 18 October for the final round of the season. The Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit will host the WorldSSP and WorldWCR finals. For GMT94, the aim is clear: to end the year on a high. Currently fourth in the provisional WorldSSP team standings with 310 points, the team aims to demonstrate the potential of its Yamaha R9, which has consistently been in contention for podium places and victory in recent rounds.
In the WorldWCR, French rider Carla Mulot will replace Lucie Boudesseul, who is still recovering from injury, while Justine Pedemonte will also be unavailable for this final round.
Jerez, an iconic circuit in Andalusia
Located in Jerez de la Frontera, in the magnificent region of Andalusia, the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit is a must-visit venue for Spanish motorcycling.
4.423 km long, it features 13 corners, including 8 right-handers and 5 left-handers. Its technical layout puts riders to the test on a circuit well known to the paddock, where the difference between success and failure can come down to the smallest of details.
The circuit first appeared on the championship calendar in 1990, before returning to the series in 2013.
This final round holds added symbolic significance for the Spanish rider Roberto García, who will be racing almost on home soil. Lucas Mahias is also very familiar with this circuit, having raced there on numerous occasions.
GMT94 aims to finish the season on a high
Despite several incidents during the races that have hampered their results, Lucas Mahias and Roberto García have shown in recent rounds that they have the pace needed to compete at the front of the field with the Yamaha R9.
This final round represents a last chance to realise that potential, on a circuit the riders know inside out.
Roberto García: a home finale
Roberto García is approaching this final round of the season in a positive spirit. The Spanish rider feels fit and is not in any pain following the incident he was involved in at Estoril. However, further tests are required to assess the condition of his ligaments. The FIM doctor will give him the all-clear on Thursday if his condition appears to be good.
Close to home in Jerez, Roberto will be keen to shine in front of his home crowd. With a new helmet design for this final round, he hopes to end the season on a high note and make the most of this special home race.
Lucas Mahias: realising the potential shown at Estoril
Lucas Mahias arrives in Spain with good reason to be confident. At Estoril, the French rider set a remarkable pace and showed he could be among the frontrunners. The second race, however, left him with some regrets, as he finished fifth whilst battling for victory.
These performances have boosted his confidence ahead of the final round. Lucas enjoys the Jerez circuit, even though he knows the competition there will be particularly fierce. The aim will be to give it his all to end the season on a high note and put on a great show for the French fans.
