WorldSSP Phillip Island 2025 : GMT94 results with Rinaldi & Mahias in race 2

Race resume

Sunday saw the second Supersport race at Phillip Island (Australia). The GMT94 riders came very close to the podium. The team and riders have high hopes for the rest of the championship.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who was forced to retire the previous day due to engine failure, was determined to show that he could be counted on to be one of the front runners. Starting from 11th on the grid, the GMT94 rider soon found himself in 8th place after a good start. With the leading group in his sights, the number 21 was immediately able to set the pace. Thanks to a perfectly executed pitstop with his team (flag-to-flag procedure), the Italian rider immediately put himself in the best possible position by finding himself among the frontrunners. Michael Rinaldi then kept up the pace in the second half of the race to take 4th place, after just two races in World Supersport.

For Lucas Mahias, race 2 did not go his way. Once again getting off to a very good start, the number 94 never let go of the leading group. The 2017 World Supersport Champion was also able to count on his team during the flag-to-flag procedure to get out of the pits on time and stay in the leading group. Having set the 2nd fastest time in the race and well placed to claim his first podium of the year, the number 94 was unlucky when a competitor crashed just in front of him, forcing him off the track. In the end, the French rider finished 6th.

Christophe Guyot: “After Lucas Mahias’ front-row finish, the weekend had started in the best possible way with hopes of a podium finish. The facts of the race decided otherwise. But Michael and Lucas were brilliant, competitive and solid. Each had the pleasure of leading the race (Lucas in race 1 and Michael in race 2). We scored 30 points at the end of the two races and we can return to Europe with a smile on our faces.”
