The day began with a masterful race from the GMT94 rider in the Women’s World Championship (WCR).

Lucie Boudesseul wrote a page of motorcycle racing history by becoming the first Frenchwoman to step onto a podium in the Women’s World Championship. After a strong 5th place the previous day, she immediately placed herself in the leading group in Race 2, even taking the lead several times in front of her home crowd. Fighting bravely against the championship favorites, rider #17 confirmed her pace throughout the race. In the closing laps, she gave it her all to secure a magnificent podium at home. A performance that thrilled both the fans and the GMT94 team.

Denied a podium the day before after an unfair penalty that cost him 3rd place, Lucas Mahias was determined to take his revenge in front of his home crowd. Starting from 3rd after a strong launch, he was clearly in contention for a podium, if not the victory. But on the opening lap, an over-eager rival collided with him, sending him to the ground. The 2017 Supersport World Champion still managed to get back on track and deliver an impressive comeback ride. Matching the pace of the two leaders, he never gave up, putting on a high-level performance for the large crowd in attendance. On board his Yamaha R9, incisive and determined, he picked off his rivals one by one to collect the points for 13th place.

Roberto Garcia, meanwhile, had to deal with a second penalty for using a 4th engine (only three are permitted per season). As on the previous day, the Spanish rider fought hard to climb back through the pack. Consistent and fast on his Yamaha R9, he crossed the line in 14th place. A promising result ahead of the next round on home soil, in Aragón, Spain.

For Bartholomé Perrin, it was his first taste of the World Championship this weekend at Magny-Cours. After a first race that allowed him to find his feet in WorldSSP, the French rider showed solid pace in Race 2. Starting 26th on the grid, he managed to complete the opening lap in 22nd position. In only his second outing with the Yamaha R9, the young Frenchman proved he was quickly adapting to his new machine. Running 20th halfway through the race, Bartholomé clocked a 1’42″0 lap time — four tenths faster than his qualifying time — closing the gap to Lucas Mahias to less than one second and six tenths, compared with two seconds and four tenths in qualifying. His spectacular progress looked set to bring him into the top 20, perhaps even up to P18. But with four laps remaining, a technical issue forced the GMT94 rider to retire. Bart can still be proud of his race. The whole team now wishes him the best in his quest to secure the French Supersport Championship title, which awaits him on September 28 at the Val de Vienne circuit (86).
