From 4 to 6 September, the WorldSBK Championship stops off in France, at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, for the 9th round of the season. This is bound to be a special event for GMT94, currently 5th in the WorldSSP championship with 208 points, as they return to their home crowd for what is the team’s most important weekend of the year.
On home soil, GMT94 will field three riders in WorldSSP: Roberto Garcia and Lucas Mahias will be aiming to challenge at the front of the field, while Amaury Mizera will be making a one-off appearance for GMT94, following Evann Plaindoux’s withdrawal, under the wild card offered by the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM), Yamaha Motor France and GMT94 to the leader of the Yamaha 700 Challenge in the FSBK.
Mathieu Gines, who has just been crowned French Champion in the Supersport class and World Endurance Champion with GMT94 in 2014, will also be awarded a wildcard at Magny-Cours, courtesy of the FFM, and will be supported by GMT94.
But this French round is about more than just the competition. True to its identity, GMT94 will throw open its doors to give as many people as possible a behind-the-scenes look at the racing. Over 1,000 people will be welcomed by the team throughout the weekend, with a number of activities, pit visits, a walking tour of the circuit, autograph sessions, a paddock show and plenty of prizes to be won. A true immersion in the world of GMT94 therefore awaits the fans.
Magny-Cours, a technical and well-rounded circuit
The Nevers Magny-Cours Circuit is 4.411 km long and features 17 corners, including 9 right-handers and 8 left-handers. Its particularly technical layout incorporates corners found on other Formula 1 circuits, offering a challenging track with varied configurations, combined with an elevation change of around 30 metres.
It is a track that GMT94 knows particularly well: since joining the World Supersport Championship, the team has already secured 5 podium finishes there.
Ideal conditions and targets for the GMT94 riders
The first test sessions at Magny-Cours have confirmed GMT94’s ambitions. Both regular riders quickly found the right set-up and set a particularly encouraging pace.
Roberto Garcia is approaching the race with great enthusiasm after a long summer break. Faster than last year on this same circuit, the Spaniard believes that GMT94’s base set-up puts them in a position to challenge the leading group and fight for the podium.
For Lucas Mahias, Magny-Cours is a track he knows particularly well. The Frenchman has already secured several wins and podium finishes there in the past and is coming off the back of a fourth-place finish in 2025. Building on those results, he too will be aiming to challenge for the top spots in front of his home crowd.
Finally, Amaury Mizera is set for what is bound to be a special weekend as he makes his debut on the world stage. His test sessions at Magny-Cours went very well, with him feeling comfortable on the bike and settling in perfectly with the team. As he takes his first steps in WorldSSP, the young Frenchman intends, above all, to enjoy himself and gain as much experience as possible.
With the forecast predicting very hot weather and plenty of sunshine throughout the weekend, with temperatures expected to exceed 30 °C, managing the racing conditions will, however, be a key factor.
