The GMT94 team finishes twice 4th at Assen

Assen - Netherlands

Race resume

The GMT94 had a difficult weekend at Assen (Netherlands), but gave the maximum to get two fourth places for Jules Cluzel, and an eighth place for Federico Caricasulo. Indeed, the Italian rider was forced to retire following a crash of an opponent, which hit him down instantly during Race 2. Federico is fortunately unhurt.

The GMT94 riders gave their best during the three days. A problem with the throttle connection, which prevented them from keeping their line, was initially a problem. Once the solution was found, the riders were unable to maintain grip at the rear to follow the leading group. Jules felt particularly comfortable at the beginning of the race, before having to give up. He fought his way through the podium group, but his rear tyre grip could not keep up with the pace.

This is the first time since Magny-Cours 2019 that GMT94 doesn’t have a podium in a whole weekend.

Jules Cluzel: “It was a complicated weekend, despite that I gave my best on the bike from Friday. I want to take the positive from race 2, because we found the right direction to get closer to the lead. My bike was very healthy at the beginning of the race, before I lost grip. Then I had to fight, and I lost time when fighting in the chasing group.

Federico Caricasulo
: “Another difficult weekend for us. It was possible to do better in qualifying, but a crash cut us off. During the warm-up I finished first with the feeling that it was possible to do better than the 8th place obtained the day before. Unfortunately a competitor crashed under my wheels, and I couldn’t do anything.”

Christophe Guyot
: “Both our riders had the same feeling throughout the weekend. The team was initially confused, as no radical changes had been made. But the riders couldn’t do it. We didn’t give up, we put everything on the table and everything started to feel better during the warm-up on Sunday morning. We made progress at the start of the race, now we have to go the distance to fight for victory again.
