Valentin Debise will replace Federico Caricasulo at GMT94 Yamaha for round five of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Most in the Czech Republic, after the team and Caricasulo parted ways by mutual consent after a disappointing weekend in Assen.
Caricasulo showed great potential aboard the GMT94 Yamaha R6 in pre-season testing, but this potential went unrealised during the first half of the 2021 WorldSSP season, with pole position in Estoril the only highlight. The Italian currently lies 12th in the championship standings, a disappointing position for a team and rider used to challenging for race wins.
Following another frustrating weekend in Assen, where Caricasulo was forced to retire from Race 2 on Sunday after being hit by another rider, GMT94 Yamaha and Caricasulo agreed to part ways amicably. As a result, Debise will replace Caricasulo aboard the GMT94 Yamaha R6 for the race in Most, Czech Republic (August 6th-8th).
Debise, who currently heads both the French Supersport and Superbike championship standings, was already the winner of the wild card ride offered for round seven of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Magny-Cours, France (September 3rd-5th) by GMT94, the FFM and Yamaha France. The 29-year-old Frenchman also enjoyed a successful first test aboard the GMT94 Yamaha R6 at Circuit Carole in France earlier this month, making him the obvious choice to represent the team in the Czech Republic.
