Barcelona race 1: Verdoïa gets hit, one point for Cauchi

Starting from 13th place, Andy Verdoïa completed a lap in the rain before returning to the pits to change tyres. He was 15th on the track before moving up to 11th place on slicks in a few turns under the rain. After the pitstop, Andy came out in 5th place thanks to an incredible job by the GMT94 mechanics. Two riders in front had penalties. Andy was therefore virtually on the podium. Unfortunately, on the next lap, a rider who lost the brakes hit him in the first corner. Andy was left with a twisted right ankle. He is declared unfit for tomorrow’s race. The whole team wishes a good recovery to the rider from Nice.

Ludovic Cauchi started from the 29th place. Following his pit stop Ludovic was 16th after another great intervention from the GMT94 mechanics. He then managed to maintain the gap after Andy’s crash. He scored his first World Championship point in his first world race.

Andy Verdoïa: “I’m really disappointed, because as soon as the drops appeared I gained three places. Then the team did an incredible job in the pits, and it was possible to do something nice. Unfortunately, bad luck struck. Fortunately I only got off with a sprain. I hope I can recover quickly.“

Ludovic Cauchi: “I didn’t have a great start, but when the drops came I gained some places. Then the GMT94 team did a great job which put me 15th. I was 9 seconds ahead of the next rider, so I managed to keep the gap. I am happy with this first point and I hope to continue my progress tomorrow.
