Following the success of the 2021 edition, GMT94, the French Federation (FFM) and Yamaha France are renewing the Wild Card project in French Superbike Championship (FSBK) for the 2022 season. As a reminder, this challenge rewards the leader of the French Championship in the 600cc class. The rider will be selected on July 3rd 2022, following the 5th round of the FSBK championship. He will earn an invitation to the French round of the World Supersport Championship on the GMT94 Yamaha R6. The rider will also benefit from a test session to prepare himself.
A young rider selected by the FFM will also benefit from a wild card with his FSBK team and the support of GMT94.
The Nevers Magny-Cours circuit (France) will host the World Supersport Championship from September 9 to 11, 2022.
Sébastien Poirier (President of the FFM): “In 2021, we were able to see the impact of this project alongside GMT94 and Yamaha. The starting grid of the French Supersport Championship was particularly full. Valentin Debise’s performance has elevated our French championship. For 2022, we will also select a young rider and offer him a wild card entry in the French Superbike Grand Prix. Thanks to the FFM and GMT94, French riders will be particularly present on the starting grid in the World Supersport Championship at Magny Cours. I wish them all the best.”
Vincent Thommeret (Director Yamaha Motor branches France) : “We have been committed to this project with GMT94 since 2019. The enthusiasm of young people is undeniable. The hope of being able to reach the international level from the French championship has been reborn. Some young riders from the bLU cRU school are in the running for this selection, which also proves the success of the program. It was therefore obvious for Yamaha to renew this project.”
Christophe Guyot (GMT94 Team Manager): “This project has raised an enthusiasm that goes beyond borders. The French youth sees here a chance to improve, only depending of their performance level. At the end of the season, opinions were unanimous: it was a real success. In 2022, even more French riders who used to ride abroad will join the FSBK championship, with the hope of getting this invitation to the world stage, and above all, the proof of a level that is rising year after year. “
Rémi Guyot (GMT94 Coordinator) : “Motivated by this wild card, the experienced riders looking for a place in the world championship, are coming back to their roots. The young rider (under 21 years old – challenger category) selected by the FFM to participate in the world event, will benefit from the support of GMT94. The team will provide a prepared Yamaha R6 engine, electronics and suspensions. The advice at the workshop, until the support during the race weekend will help boost the young rider confidence.“
