Interesting Friday in Assen.

This weekend the second round of the World Supersport Championship takes place at the Assen circuit (Netherlands). Two free practice sessions were scheduled for this Friday, April 22.

As usual, Jules Cluzel and Andy Verdoïa started FP1 with a similar amount of fuel to the race. A difficult session for both drivers. The team decided in FP2 to reduce the amount of fuel by half. The goal was to identify the impact of the added weight on the GMT94 Yamaha R6s due to the lightness of its riders, following the new Supersport regulations for the 2022 season. Instantly, both riders were a lot faster. Jules Cluzel finished the day in 6th place, improving his race pace lap by lap, as did Andy Verdoïa who finished 11th. Unfortunately, the rider from Nice could not express himself fully during this day. A strong pain in his right forearm prevented him from riding freely. On Jules side, it will be interesting to see if his progress and adaptation to the new 2022 regulations continues in the right direction during the Superpole, in order to fight in the leading group from Race 1. With an ideal time of 1’37.9 for Jules Cluzel, four tenths faster than his best lap in FP2, and the second best top speed, the whole GMT94 Yamaha team remains optimistic for tomorrow.
