WSBK at Mandalika : irst testing day in Indonesia

3 March 2023

Race resume

The beginning of this first day in Mandalika was not easy for the WSBK riders. Indeed, the riders made their first laps on a track particularly dirty because of the wind and sand which were present the previous days.

In Supersport, the number 94 and his rivals had the difficult task of cleaning the track in FP1. With an average time of 4 seconds of the best time of last year, the riders were not particularly comfortable.  Valentin Debise took his marks without forcing his talent on the Indonesian track in particular conditions. The memory of his crash in the same conditions in 2021 has had reason for his ardor. FP2 was clearly different for the French rider who was able to express all his potential by linking good laps with a time of 1’37.242 at half a second of the best time. This bodes well for tomorrow’s qualifying and Race 1.

In Superbike, the track was just as tricky in FP1 for Lorenzo Baldassarri, as the dusty asphalt caused a number of crashes, including that of the number 34 who unfortunately got up with a sore shoulder and a damaged Yamaha R1. After a great job by the team to get the Yamaha YZF-R1 back in shape, Lorenzo Baldassarri was able to take part in FP2. It was a positive session for the GMT94 rider, who was finally able to get his bearings at the Mandalika Circuit.
