Since the arrival of the GMT94 in the World Supersport Championship, a wild-card has been offered each year to the French rider leading the French Championship for the world round at Magny-Cours in September.

There have been some important changes to the FSBK regulations in the Supersport category.

The French Motorcycling Federation has decided to base the format on that of the World Championship. This decision will allow riders to compete on the same machines as those used in the World Championship. It also opens the door to new manufacturers and different engines. The engine regulations authorise major modifications that affect performance. The engine of the Yamaha R6 went from 140 hp to almost 160 hp. The cost will be higher: €15,000 for an engine with a life limited to 1,500 km. In 2024, there will be 2 classifications: the Supersport 600 category (unchanged from 2023) and the ‘new generation’ category with new manufacturers and 600cc bikes with modified engines.

Christophe Guyot: “Many riders wanted the French Motorcycling Federation to follow the Mondial regulations. Now it has, and we can look forward to the return of brands that had deserted the category. Perhaps this will bring back some official riders. But for the project of offering a wild card on an equitable basis, it is important to be able to assess the level of riders on identical bikes. That’s why we’ve decided with the French Motorcycling Federation to offer a wild card to the rider who takes part in the French Championship with an engine close to stock, as in 2023. This will also allow riders with modest budgets to compete for their dream.
