This weekend, GMT94 Yamaha was in Estoril (Portugal) to compete in the 11th round of the World Supersport Championship.
On a circuit he knows well, Roberto Garcia — crowned European Moto2 Champion in 2024 on this same track — hoped to shine once again. Finishing 17th in Race 1 the day before after a double long lap, the number 37 rider still managed to set the fastest time in Race 1, allowing him to start from pole position in Race 2. The GMT94 Yamaha rider immediately made his mark by finding himself at the front with the championship leaders. Quickly finding his rhythm, Roberto joined the battle with the championship leaders. Combative and incisive on his Yamaha R9, he clearly had his sights set on the podium. However, contact with another rider midway through the race knocked him out of the leading group. Despite this, the 19-year-old fought hard until the checkered flag to take a superb 4th place.
As for Lucas Mahias, his 5h place finish in Race 1 the day before boded well for Sunday. Starting ninth on the grid, the Frenchman once again got off to an excellent start, moving up to seventh by the first corner. Consistent and fast on his Yamaha R9, he quickly moved up to 6th place, in contact with the leaders. Engaged in several spectacular duels, the 2017 Supersport World Champion showed great determination in his overtaking maneuvers. A crash at the end of the race following a collision with a competitor prevented the French rider from confirming his strong performances over the weekend.
The two GMT94 Yamaha riders will now turn their attention to Jerez (Spain), where the final round of the Supersport World Championship will take place next weekend.
Finally, the whole team would like to congratulate Stefano Manzi, crowned 2025 World Champion, as well as the Ten Kate team, with whom the French team collaborates on engine preparation.
