The Superbike World Championship heads to Italy this weekend for the Emilia-Romagna round, taking place at the legendary Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. This event marks the 7th round of the Supersport World Championship and the 4th round of the WorldWCR. Ahead of this unmissable event, GMT94 sits in 4th place in the WorldSSP Championship with 161 points and aims to continue its progress on a circuit that suits the Yamaha.
Misano, a classic on the world calendar
Stretching 4.226 km and featuring 16 corners, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is one of the iconic circuits on the World Superbike Championship calendar. Alongside Phillip Island, Assen and Donington Park, it ranks among the historic venues on the calendar, having regularly hosted the WorldSBK since its first visit in 1991.
The circuit was renamed in 2012 in tribute to Marco Simoncelli, who tragically passed away the previous year.
This region has also seen the emergence of numerous champions such as Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Melandri.
Big plans for GMT94
Conditions are set to be ideal, with plenty of sunshine throughout the weekend and temperatures reaching up to 29°C on Sunday.
For GMT94, Misano represents a significant opportunity. The Italian circuit limits the impact of differences in top speed thanks to a relatively short straight. The Yamaha’s handling qualities, combined with the riders’ talent, should therefore be able to shine through.
The team arrives with high hopes following Roberto Garcia’s excellent performances at Aragon, where he secured two fourth-place finishes. Despite a difficult weekend in Spain, marked by several crashes during practice, Lucas Mahias also demonstrated that he has the pace needed to challenge at the front.
The objective is clear: to fight at the front and aim for the podium.
Lucas Mahias: regaining momentum
Lucas Mahias heads into this round full of confidence on a circuit he particularly enjoys. The Frenchman loves the unique atmosphere at Misano, fuelled by a passionate crowd and a strong motorcycling culture.
Following a frustrating round at Aragon despite showing clear potential, he will be keen to capitalise on his pace and join the battle for the podium right from the first sessions of the weekend.
Roberto Garcia: building on his recent form
For Roberto Garcia, Misano holds a special place in his heart, as it was there that he made his WorldSSP debut last season. The Spaniard also has fond memories of the circuit thanks to his past performances in Moto2.
Thanks to his excellent recent results, he arrives in Italy with growing confidence. Convinced that GMT94 now has what it takes to compete at the front of the field, he is once again aiming for the top positions and hopes to continue his run of strong results before the summer break.
Justine Pedemonte replaces Lucie Boudesseul in WorldWCR
Injured during a French Championship round, Lucie Boudesseul will be forced to miss the Misano and Donington rounds.
To fill in for her, GMT94 will be relying on Justine Pedemonte. The French rider is already familiar with the Italian circuit and has recently had the opportunity to try out the Yamaha R7. Although her experience on this machine remains limited, she is approaching this opportunity with great enthusiasm and determination.
Her aim will be to continue her development whilst representing the colours of GMT94 and France to the best of her ability in a particularly competitive championship.
