Race resume

The sixth round of the Supersport World Championship took place this weekend at the Aragón circuit in Spain.

Racing on home soil, Roberto Garcia was determined to shine in front of his home crowd. Very fast from the start of Friday morning’s free practice sessions on his Yamaha R9, the GMT94 rider consistently led the qualifying session in the afternoon. With an excellent performance, the No. 37 rider secured a spot on the front row, putting himself in the best possible position for the weekend’s first race.

On Saturday, after a very strong start, the GMT94 rider immediately settled in behind former Moto3 World Champion Albert Arenas. Consistent and strong throughout the race, Roberto Garcia stayed in contact with the leading group and earned valuable points by finishing in a solid 4th place.

On Sunday, the young Yamaha 37 rider celebrated his 20th birthday with his team following an excellent warm-up (P2). In the race, Roberto made another perfect start, taking the lead right from the first corner. Leading for much of the race, the 2024 Moto2 European Champion battled at the front with the goal of securing his best result in the World Championship. Victory seemed within reach. The team and spectators held their breath. Still in the leading group as the final laps approached, he ultimately crossed the finish line in 4th place, just three-tenths of a second behind the winner. An excellent performance and a solid haul of points that confirm his potential and fuel high ambitions for the upcoming races.

As for Lucas Mahias, the weekend had started off in the best possible way with the second-fastest time in free practice. Unfortunately, a double crash during the afternoon qualifying session prevented the French rider from realizing his potential.

Starting from 19th on the grid in Race 1, the No. 94 rider once again made a strong start, moving up to 13th place by the first lap. As the race progressed, Lucas gradually regained his confidence and pace. Battling with Can Öncü for 11th place in the final laps, he ultimately finished 14th.

In Race 2, Lucas Mahias was unable to recapture the confidence he had shown at the start of the weekend and decided to return to the pits early after just a few laps.

The French rider is now looking ahead to the next round of the championship, which will take place in Misano, Italy, from June 12–14.
