Assen 2026: Podium finish for Lucie Boudesseul in WorldWCR, and results for the GMT94 riders in WorldSSP

Race resume

The GMT94 Yamaha riders were on track this weekend at Assen (Netherlands) for the third round of the Supersport World Championship and the second round of the Women’s World Championship.

Pole for Lucas Mahias

Following his podium finish in Portugal, Lucas Mahias approached this event aiming to build on his strong start to the season. Right from Friday, the Frenchman stood out by securing pole position on his Yamaha R9. Performing well over several laps, number 94 could legitimately aim for a very good result in the first race.

As is often the case, Lucas got off to an excellent start, taking the lead from the opening laps. Engaged in an intense battle, the 2017 Supersport World Champion proved particularly aggressive. By the end of the final lap, Lucas was comfortably settled in second place on the leader’s tail, and we could dream of a victory. But the final chicane had other ideas, and Lucas, bumped by a rival, finished 5th.

Starting Race 2 from 6th position, Lucas Mahias had to contend with tricky track conditions caused by unsettled weather. Quickly moving up to 5th, he settled into the leading group, ready to fight for the podium within a fiercely contested pack of seven riders. Having set the second-fastest lap time in the race, the podium was once again within his grasp. But after being held up midway through the race, he lost a lot of time. The appearance of a red flag with just a few laps to go put an end to his hopes of rejoining the leading group. Lucas ultimately finished 10th and is now looking ahead to the next round at Balaton, in Hungary.

Front row for Roberto Garcia

For Roberto Garcia, the Assen circuit was a new experience. Diligent and focused on learning the track, number 37 made a solid start to the weekend. Starting fifteenth in the first race, the 2024 European Moto2 Champion showed great consistency, even setting the third-fastest lap time in the race. Unfortunately, a crash forced him to retire.

Still confident, he started from the front row on Sunday. Fitted with slick tyres despite wet patches, he had to be cautious from the opening laps. Although he was unable to fully capitalise on his starting position, he remained in a position to score valuable points. Hampered by a rival, Roberto Garcia eventually crashed, causing a red flag. It was more of a scare than anything serious for the 19-year-old rider, who emerged unscathed after a visit to the medical centre. He hopes to bounce back at the next round in Hungary, on a circuit he enjoys.

Lucie Boudesseul’s podium

In the Women’s World Championship, Lucie Boudesseul was also determined to shine in the Netherlands. Fast right from qualifying, she finished fifth. In the first race, she made an excellent start to move into fourth position on the very first lap. Caught up in a group of eight riders battling for the podium, she fought with determination. Although she was maintaining a good pace, a crash in a fast corner on the final lap forced her to retire. It was a tough blow, but it did not dampen her motivation for the following day.

Starting seventh in Race 2, Lucie quickly moved up to fifth place thanks to a very good start. Attacking in the early laps, she took the lead of the group battling for third place. Thanks to a solid pace on her Yamaha R7, she extended her lead despite tricky track conditions and a few showers. Well established in third place, she held on until the end and posted some very good lap times. Lucie Boudesseul thus secured her first podium of the season and heads into the next round, which will take place in Balaton (Hungary) on 1, 2 and 3 May, with confidence.
