From 10 to 12 July, the FIM Supersport World Championship stops off at Donington Park in the UK for the 8th round of the season. At the same time, the Women’s World Championship (WorldWCR) will contest its 5th round of the year. Ahead of the summer break, GMT94 sits in 5th place in the Teams’ Championship with 171 points and is determined to return to the top of the standings at a circuit where it has often performed well.
Donington Park, a classic on the calendar
At 4.023 km in length, the Donington Park circuit is one of the championship’s most iconic tracks. Renowned for its significant elevation changes and rapid succession of corners, it puts riders through their paces with legendary sections such as the Craner Curves, where precision and commitment are essential. The Melbourne hairpin, meanwhile, is one of the best places to overtake, whilst the exit from Coppice determines the speed on the long straight that follows.
To return to winning ways and live up to the standard set by the riders
The Czech weekend did not go well for the GMT94 riders, but the team is approaching this British round with confidence intact. Everyone is aware of the reasons behind this lack of success and the whole team is determined to bounce back.
Indeed, the team has excellent memories of Donington Park. Lucas Mahias secured two podium finishes there last year on the Yamaha R9, while Roberto Garcia impressed with a top-five finish on his debut weekend racing for GMT94. The team has also claimed victory there with Jules Cluzel in the past.
No technical changes are planned for the Yamaha R9s. The two weeks spent in the workshop have allowed the bikes to be thoroughly checked, ensuring the team is in the best possible shape for this round and enabling the riders to reach their full potential.
Lucas Mahias
A few days after competing in the Suzuka 8 Hours, the third round of the FIM EWC World Endurance Championship with the 3ART Best Of Bike Hamaguchi team, Lucas Mahias will return to a circuit he is particularly fond of. Having secured two podium finishes at Donington Park last year, the Frenchman arrives in England aiming to capitalise on his current form with excellent results on a track where he has historically performed well.
Roberto Garcia
Roberto Garcia is approaching this event with great confidence. The Spaniard returns to a circuit he particularly enjoys and where he finished in the top five last year. After several weeks of physical preparation and training, and having learnt from the lessons of recent races, he believes he has everything it takes to compete at the front of the field. On a demanding circuit, combining fast corners with slower sections, his aim will be to build on his progress and aim for the podium once again.
Justine Pedemonte
In the WorldWCR, Justine Pedemonte will once again stand in for Lucie Boudesseul, who is still recovering. The French rider will be racing at Donington Park for the first time in her career. With no pressure on her, she will approach this fifth round with the aim of continuing to learn the Yamaha R7, gaining experience and continuing to enjoy herself with GMT94.
