Race resume

GMT94 riders were in Portimão (Portugal) this weekend for the second round of the Supersport World Championship, as well as the opening round of the Women’s World Championship.

With a podium, a top-5 finish and promising debuts, the team leaves Portugal with valuable championship points.

1st podium of the season for Lucas Mahias

Lucas Mahias clearly showed his ambitions to fight at the front in 2026. From Friday, the French rider stood out in qualifying by securing a front-row start during a session disrupted by a red flag, caused by an engine failure that left the track slippery.

On Saturday, in Race 1, the number 94 made an excellent start and was very aggressive on his Yamaha R9. Impressive in the final sector, the 2017 Supersport World Champion managed to claim his first podium of the season with a superb 3rd place.

On Sunday, starting from 2nd position thanks to his excellent lap time set during the race the day before, Lucas once again made a strong start. Staying on the leader’s rear wheel for most of the race, he showed great pace and even set the fastest lap of the race. Leading with two laps to go, the battle was intense in the final meters and Lucas Mahias ultimately finished 4th. He now turns his focus to the next round in Assen (Netherlands).

Two Top 5 for Roberto Garcia

Meanwhile, Roberto Garcia was racing at one of his favorite circuits. Starting from 8th position in Race 1, the number 37 showed a very strong pace on his Yamaha R9. Overtaking his rivals one by one with decisive moves, the 2023 Moto2 European Champion finished in an excellent 4th place, just off the podium.

His race lap time allowed him to start from the front row on Sunday. Quickly involved in the fight for the podium, the 19-year-old rider continues to confirm his progress at every race. Despite a small mistake, he managed to catch back up with his rivals by setting very fast lap times in the final laps. Roberto eventually finished 5th and proved that he will be one to watch this season.

GMT94 Yamaha scored big points this weekend and is now only 10 points behind the championship leader.

Lucie Boudesseul in contention for a podium place right from the first race of the season

Finally, in the Women’s World Championship, it was Lucie Boudesseul’s debut in 2026. Hampered by a technical issue during qualifying, the GMT94 rider still managed to secure the 7th fastest time.

In Race 1, the number 94 fought throughout the race in the group battling for 4th place. Thanks to excellent management of her final lap, Lucie finished just off the podium.

On Sunday, in Race 2, the 22-year-old rider once again showed her fighting spirit by moving up through the field. Fighting for 4th place, Lucie was hoping for a strong result, but a crash forced her to retire.

The French rider now turns to Assen (Netherlands), where the next WorldWCR round will take place on April 17, 18 and 19.
