9 August 2024

Race resume

The seventh round of the World Superbike Championship got underway in summer weather at Portimao (Portugal).

In Supersport, Lucas Mahias set the pace right from the free practice session, putting himself in the best possible position for Superpole. During this session, which determines the starting grid positions for Race 1, the French rider and his team methodically implemented their strategy to “chase” the lap time. It was in the last run of the session that the number 94 set his best time, and he will finally start from seventh position on Saturday. The 2017 World Champion can look forward to a good result on a track that has worked well for him in the past.

Philipp Öttl completed over 40 Superbike laps in today’s two free sessions. The GMT94 rider’s aim was to work with his team on the set-up of the Yamaha YZF-R1 in order to prepare for Saturday’s Superpole and Race 1.
