Portimao - Portugal

Race resume

Following two pole positions and four podiums in the 2021 season, the GMT94 team arrived at the Portimao circuit (Portugal) with the ambition to do well. With Valentin Debise still recovering from his accident in Magny-Cours (France), Yari Montella (Italy, 21 years old) joined Jules Cluzel for the weekend.

From Friday, the French GMT94 rider set a great pace. He finished 2nd and 1st in free practices. Yari Montella was discovering the Yamaha R6, Pirelli tyres and the World Supersport Championship. He finished 11th, one second behind the leader.

The Superpole took place on Saturday morning. Jules Cluzel took pole position, with a new absolute track record. A good warm-up for the afternoon race. Yari Montella finished the session in 10th position, 0.7s behind the leader.

From the beginning of the race, Jules was fighting for the first place. With the help of the slipstream and an incredible ease in the third sector, Jules Cluzel won the 10th round of the World Supersport Championship. He also got the track record in the last lap in 1’44.7.
Yari Montella finished 10th, nine seconds behind the winner. A good performance for a first race in World Supersport.

Christophe Guyot: “This victory comes at the right time! After an unlucky season, we had the perfect weekend. This victory is a reward for Jules, but also for the whole GMT94 team who have worked hard since the beginning of the season. This is without doubt our best weekend since Aragon. Jules was able to fully exploit the strengths of the GMT94 Yamaha R6 in this race, which offers hope for the end of the season.
