Lucas Mahias and GMT94 Yamaha met at Circuit Carole to attempt to break the track record. After some very good tests on the Parisian track a few weeks earlier, number 94 could hope to improve on the time set in 2020 by Jules Cluzel (58.94) on the Yamaha R6 and then Lorenzo Baldassarri (58.869) on the Yamaha R1 GMT94.

From his first attempt, the French rider proved to be very fast, setting a time of 58.843, beating the two previous records set on the GMT94 bikes.

Lucas Mahias had already broken the track record but was not completely satisfied when he returned to the pits. Convinced he could do even better, the 2017 Supersport World Champion took to the track again on the Yamaha R9. It didn’t take long for Lucas to add his name to the Circuit Carole record books. It was on his second fast lap that the GMT94 Yamaha rider managed to complete a lap in 58.495 seconds. Greeted with applause, Lucas Mahias celebrated his record with a magnificent stoppie.

Christophe Guyot: “Thank you Lucas Mahias, the FFM, Pirelli, and our partners for helping us promote an iconic circuit that remains the training ground for many top-level riders. This new record will inspire all those who dream of achieving great things in national and world championships. ‘Carole’ brings together all levels. The circuit is open daily to everyone. This new lap time will attract even more attention to the playground of all French motorcyclists.”

Lucas Mahias: “I am very happy to have broken the Circuit Carole record. I’m happy for the team and especially for Christophe, I know this record here is very important to him. I was feeling a bit of pressure, the lap times are getting faster and faster and quite a few GMT94 riders had already broken records here. But in the end we worked well with the team and we succeeded.”

Rémi Marcy (Director of Circuit Carole): “For Circuit Carole, it is a source of immense pride that the record was broken by Lucas Mahias and GMT94. It is very significant to see that leading teams are attracted to Circuit Carole and find it of sporting interest. This allows us to create a strong link between amateur riders, motorcycle enthusiasts and professional teams/riders. For us, it is a real asset that this is happening with GMT94.

Eric Lacoste (Events Manager, Mutuelle des Motards): “A great day of sport at Circuit Carole, where Mutuelle des Motards is a partner. We had reserved this Monday for the young riders supported by GMT94 and competing in FSBK. There was also an attempt to break the track record. Seeing Lucas Mahias smash the record was fabulous. We are very proud that our two great organisations were able to be associated with the record.”
