This week, GMT94 headed to Jerez (Spain) for 4 days of testing with the Yamaha R9. The tests enabled Lucas Mahias and Michael Rinaldi to put in a series of laps on their new bikes.

For the French rider, the aim was to continue working with his team on the bike’s set-up after positive tests in Cremona last November. For Michael Rinaldi, it was his first time with the French team and the Yamaha R9. The number 21 quickly settled into his new team and, session after session, got to grips with his new bike. The GMT94 Yamaha will now meet on January 27 and 28 at the Circuit de Portimao (Portugal) to continue preparing for the 2025 World Supersport Championship season.

Lucas Mahias : “I’m happy with the times I set on the Yamaha R9. Even if I didn’t do all the laps I’d have liked to do, I’m really enjoying riding this bike. I’d like to thank GMT94 for being able to schedule tests at the beginning of January, which will enable us to make the improvements we need to be ready for the first race in Australia.”

Michael Ruben Rinaldi : “I’m satisfied about the first impression with the new R9, but especially the first test with the new team. I immediately felt really good from all the people in the GMT94, from the mechanics to the crew chief and the electronics and also from Christophe. I felt immediately really welcomed and we approached this test in a very calm way, to try to discover this bike and even if the last two days the weather was pretty bad and we weren’t able to ride in the best condition, we always improved day by day and that means a lot. It means that the job we are doing with the electronics and the setting is going in the right way. For sure after many years in Superbike, I’m trying to improve and to adapt my riding style to the R9, but I think we have done a really good job and I want to thank the team because they were amazing. So now, we are looking forward to the next test in Portimao at the end of the month, but I think we started off on the right foot and that is the most important thing.”
